How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”  Isaiah 52:7

Devotion:
Jesus Christ Reigns, Enduring the Cross — Its Scorn and Shame
The Lord Jesus reigns in love among those who are baptized in His name. “They shall be mine,” He says, “and I will spare them as a man spares his son who serves him” (Malachi 3:17). Jesus’ service through crucifixion for sinful men anchors us in new life. In the proclamation of His Son, God makes His justice clear, defining “the distinction between the righteous and the wicked” (Malachi 3:18). He truly is “the King of the Jews” (Luke 23:38), who governs His Church with all authority in heaven and on earth. He has come into His kingdom by His cross, and He graciously remembers us in paradise. Therefore, do not weep for Him, but with repentant faith “weep for yourselves and for your children” (Luke 23:28). Then the mountains and hills of Jerusalem, His holy Church, shall cover you with His righteousness and peace. For He “is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation” (Colossians 1:15). “All things were created through Him and for Him” (Colossians 1:16), and “all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell” bodily in Him, reconciling all things to Himself “by the blood of His cross” (Colossians 1:19–20).

Life Quotes:  “Thankful hearts and people produce a grateful culture, a society that is set free to live freely, set free from the mere whims of others, allowing all to live, everyone from the smallest to the perceived greatest. Whether you trust in God or not, freedom exudes gratitude. Gratitude is the grace that blesses all in this life. It gives others some semblance of hope.”

Life Thoughts In The Church Year:  When people argue that we should not bring more children into a world such as this, they agree with the people of Jerusalem at the time of its destruction: “Blessed are the barren and the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed” (Luke 23:29). But this is not the way that Jesus intends us to view the gift of new life. Instead, we weep with those who cannot bear and nurse, and we celebrate God’s gift of life, trusting that He will always reign over all things and be the “refuge and strength” of His people (Colossians 1:18; Psalm 46:1), and the little children will always be His “treasured possession” (Malachi 3:17).

The flowers on the altar are given to the glory of God by Gary and Susie Kinne. We wish God’s richest blessings up on Gary and Susie.

LWML Special Collections: LWML will be collecting the following through the end of the year for those in need in our community: Warm hats and gloves, socks, thermal wear, t-shirts, sweatshirts and sweatpants, etc. Please place them in the basket marked that is under the mailbox tables.

Lawton Food Bank: It is time for St. John’s annual peanut butter and jelly drive for the Food Bank. So, for the months of October and November our goal will be to collect as much PB&J as possible to help those in need. Let’s challenge ourselves to beat last year’s collection of 1,389 pounds. We can do it! This year, we have a chance to spread it on even a bit thicker! (UGH! Terrible pun!)

Mission and Volunteer:

There are many ways that we are able to serve the Lord. One way is to serve as either an usher or a greeter. It takes just a moment of your time, but means so much to our members. Thank you to all who signed up to be a greeter. All months have been filled. There is however, still a need for ushers. Sign up today and take an active part in this ministry here at St. John.
Please don’t forget, we are always collecting pull tabs and aluminum cans. The funds from our efforts aid various outreach programs.
