How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”  Isaiah 52:7

Devotion:
Forgiving as the Lord Forgives Us
In settling His accounts with us, our Lord acts not with anger, but with compassion. He does not imprison us as we deserve, but He forgives all our debts and releases us (Matt. 18:23–27). Therefore, our Lord bids each of us to have “mercy on your fellow servant” and “forgive your brother from your heart” (Matt. 18:33, 35). By the Lord’s forgiveness of our sins, we are free to forgive those who sin against us, because He has been handed over to the jailers in our stead and He has paid our entire debt with His lifeblood. Whether we live or die, we “are the Lord’s” (Rom. 14:8). Since we all will “stand before the judgment seat of God,” we are not to despise our brother (Rom. 14:10), but gladly forgive him. By the grace of God, our brother also “will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand” (Rom. 14:4). Though we daily sin against each other, the Lord intends “to bring it about that many people should be kept alive” (Gen. 50:20). Jesus speaks kindly by His Gospel and promises: “I will provide for you and your little ones” (Gen. 50:21).

Prayer List Requests: If you would like to submit a prayer request, please contact the Church Secretary at 580-353-0556 or email at churchsecretary@stjohnlawton.com.  What a friend we have in Jesus...take it to the Lord in Prayer.  Church members may find prayer request names after signing in {"log in"} and navigating to this link under the Membership Directory Web Page.  If you are unable to sign in, please contact the Church office for directions.

Life Quotes:  “Again, our worth is never determined by what we do. God has given us value by creating, redeeming, and calling us as His own. Still, we can be comforted knowing that even as we age and reach the point where we can no longer be active, God not only watches over us and cares for us, He accomplishes great and wonderful things through us. May the Lord of life grant us the faith and the strength to bear the crosses of aging in such a way that others are led to see the love of Christ manifest in us!”

Life Thoughts In The Church Year:  Joseph was a man wronged, repeatedly. However, as we find him in Genesis 50, those wrongs against him did not lead him to live with bitterness or a desire for revenge. Instead, we find that God provided him with patience and compassion even against those who had so terribly sinned against him. We are often quick to anger and slow to forgive. May He work patience and wisdom in our hearts when we hear about the numerous ways God’s gifts are twisted. Thanks be to God that He is “slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love” (Psalm 103:8).

The flowers on the altar are given to the glory of God by Richard and Loveta Matthys in honor of their 76th wedding anniversary. We wish God’s richest blessings on Richard and Loveta.

SILENT AUCTION FUNDRAISER: We will be having a fun silent auction and white elephant sale for the upcoming fundraiser on Sept. 20th for Sandra Harr. What is a white elephant, you ask? It's any nice quality item -- such as a vase, a framed picture, memorabilia, etc. -- that you are willing to purchase or part with for a good cause! Don't have a white elephant? Think about donating a gift card to a restaurant or your favorite oil change shop. If you have an item or items to donate, please place them near the LWML room (west end of the fellowship hall) on the table provided there. Please put your name on your donations so we can acknowledge your kind deed. If you have questions, contact Sharon Greene @ 580-695 0655. And thank you in advance!

Giving opportunities.  The way that the world accomplishes charitable giving has changed dramatically along with the way we pay our bills. Checks are not as common as they once were, and St. John Lutheran is endeavoring to stay current with the financial trends of today. St. John offers several ways to give your offerings. Certainly, of course, you can still put your check or cash in your offering envelope and put it in the offering plate as they are most assuredly accepted. We also have several electronic avenues for giving. The "Give" next to this announcement, "Give" icon on bottom of each page, or the "Give" in the top menu will take you to our electronic page where you can select the area to which you desire to give (like Altar Flowers, LWML, Missions, etc.). There are many opportunities on that page. If you want to go directly to the General Offering QR code, use the code on the card in the pocket in the pew. We also can have the church initiate a monthly EFT that directly draws your offering from your bank account and transfers it to the church bank account. Please contact Deb Simmons for more information. If you don’t have an envelope, please ask an usher or Deb Simmons.
